Draw and guess online, free
Sketch is a drawing and guessing game for friends, like skribbl.io or Pictionary on your phones. One player draws a word, everyone else types guesses. The faster you guess, the more points you get.
- 👥 2 or more players
- ⏱️ 10–30 minutes
- 📱 One device each
- 🆓 Free, no sign-up
Rooms are private: only people with your code or link can join. It works on phones, tablets and laptops, so it is just as good on a sofa as on a video call with friends in other cities. The word library has about 1,500 words in 25 categories, each marked easy, medium or hard.
How to play
- Make a room. Enter your name and tap Create room. Share the 4-letter code, the link or the QR code.
- Pick the settings. The host chooses the rounds, the draw time, the word difficulty and the categories, then taps Start.
- Choose a word. The drawer picks one of the word choices. After 15 seconds the game picks one for them.
- Draw. Use the colors, the pen sizes, the eraser, undo and clear. No letters or numbers — that's cheating.
- Guess. Everyone else types guesses. The blanks show how many letters the word has, and hints reveal letters as the clock runs. A guess that is one letter off shows "Close!" only to you.
- Take turns. Every player draws once each round. After the last round, the podium shows the top three.
Rules and scoring
- Guessers get 250 points down to 50, depending on how quickly they guess, plus a bonus for guessing first (150), second (100) or third (75), and 50 after that.
- The drawer gets half of the guessers' average points, so a clear drawing pays.
- The first correct guess takes 20 seconds off the clock, but always leaves at least 15 seconds.
- The turn ends when everyone has guessed or the time runs out.
- Players can give each drawing a thumbs up or down.
Settings and variants
- Rounds: 1 to 10 (3 by default).
- Draw time: 30 to 180 seconds (80 by default).
- Word choices: 1 to 5 words to pick from.
- Hints: 0 to 5 letters revealed during the turn, never more than half the word.
- Difficulty: Easy, Medium, Hard or Mixed.
- Custom words: type your own words, separated by commas, and play them alone or mixed in. Perfect for inside jokes, a theme night or a class.
Tips
- Start with the biggest shape, then add the details. Guessers see your lines live.
- Stuck? Draw something related. For "fireplace", a sock on a hook may get there faster.
- Guessing: type often and type short. Wrong guesses cost nothing.
- For kids or new players, set the difficulty to Easy and the draw time to 120 seconds.
FAQ
Is Sketch like skribbl.io or Pictionary?
Yes. One player draws a word and the others race to guess it in the chat, like skribbl.io and online Pictionary. Sketch has private rooms only, made for playing with people you know, and it is built for phones.
How many players can play Sketch?
You need at least 2. There is no fixed limit, and 3 to 8 players is the sweet spot.
Do we each need our own phone?
Yes. Each player joins the room on their own phone, tablet or laptop, so the drawer's word stays secret.
Can we use our own words?
Yes. The host can type custom words in the lobby, separated by commas, and mix them with the library or use them alone. Inside jokes work great.
Is it free? Do we need an account?
It is free, with no account and no download. Enter a name, create a room, share the link. Sketch needs an internet connection.
