    How to play
    1. Every player gets a secret role: Mafia, Doctor, Police or Citizen, and when they are on, a Mafia helper and a Jester. The Mafia know each other.
    2. First day (when "Start with a day" is on): everyone holds the door to see their role, then the table talks. No vote, nobody dies; the host can go straight to the night.
    3. Night: each player holds the door to see their role and does their night move: the Mafia pick a victim, the Doctor saves one player, the Police check one player, and everyone else picks who they suspect. Every turn looks the same, so nobody can tell.
    4. Morning: the app tells who died, or that nobody died.
    5. The narrator: a soft sound when night falls and a bright one in the morning; every announcement shows on the screen, and πŸ” Repeat plays it again. With the timer: a "ting" (and a buzz) at 30 seconds left, a tick each of the last 15 seconds, and a gong when time is up. "Read aloud" (off at first) also speaks the announcements. Each on own phone, the long sounds and the ticks play on the host's phone only.
    6. Day: talk (with the timer, when it is on), then vote one player out (or nobody). A tie means nobody is out. On one phone the vote is secret (the phone goes round), open (enter each vote) or a group choice.
    7. The town wins when every Mafia is out. The Mafia win when they are as many as the others. The Mafia helper wins with the Mafia but does not know them, and the Police see them as not Mafia. The Jester wins alone if the town votes them out.
    8. Each on own phone: a player who has not moved 2 minutes into the night gets a random move from the game. A missing vote counts as no vote.
    9. Never show your screen β€” showing it is cheating.

    Mafia without a narrator

Mafia is the classic party game of secret roles, lies and late-night accusations. Usually one person has to sit out and run it. Here the app is the narrator, so everyone at the table plays.

    • πŸ‘₯ 5–16 players
    • ⏱️ 20–45 minutes
    • πŸ“± One phone, or one each
    • πŸ†“ Free, no sign-up

The app deals the roles, collects each night move in secret, announces the morning news, keeps the discussion timer and counts the votes. Sounds mark night and morning, and every announcement shows as a big card with a Repeat button. Turn on Read aloud if you want the phone to speak the announcements too.

    How to play

    1. Set up. Add the players' names (one phone) or create a room and share the code (each on own phone). Choose the roles and settings.
    2. First day. With "Start with a day" on, everyone holds the door to see their role, then the table chats. No vote and nobody dies.
    3. Night. Each player sees their role and makes a move. The Mafia pick a victim, the Doctor saves one player, the Police check one player, and everyone else answers "Who do you suspect most?". Every turn looks the same, so nobody can tell roles apart.
    4. Morning. The app tells who died, or that nobody died last night.
    5. Day. Talk it over, then vote one player out, or nobody. A tie means nobody is out.
    6. Repeat night and day until one side wins.

    Roles and rules

    • Mafia know each other and pick one victim each night. Online, they must all agree on the same player.
    • Doctor saves one player each night, themselves too, but not the same player two nights in a row.
    • Police check one player each night and learn whether they are Mafia.
    • Citizens have no power, only their vote and their voice.
    • The town wins when no Mafia are left. The Mafia win when they are at least as many as everyone else.
    • The app suggests 1 Mafia for 5–7 players, 2 for 8–11 and 3 for 12 or more.
    • Never show your screen β€” showing it is cheating.

    Variants and settings

    Mafia helper

The helper wins with the Mafia but does not know who they are, and the Mafia do not know the helper. The Police see the helper as not Mafia. Good for groups that find the Mafia too easy to catch.

    Jester

The Jester wins alone, at once, if the town votes them out. If the Mafia kill them at night, they just die. Expect a lot of suspicious behaviour on purpose.

    Voting on one phone

Secret: the phone goes round and each player votes alone. Open: enter each player's vote. Group: the table agrees on one name.

    Timer and other settings

Set a discussion time from 1 to 10 minutes, or none. When time runs out the vote can open by itself, or wait for the host. You can also choose to show the role of eliminated players, and turn Sounds and Read aloud on or off.

    Tips

    • Citizens: ask questions and remember who said what. The Mafia have to lie every day.
    • Mafia: act like a worried citizen. Accuse someone, but not too hard.
    • Doctor: a player who talks a lot is often the Mafia's next target.
    • Police: share what you know at the right time. Reveal too early and you will not see the next morning.
    • New group? Start with Doctor and Police only, and add the helper or the Jester next time.

    FAQ

Can we play Mafia without a narrator?

Yes. The app is the narrator. It deals the roles, collects every night move in secret, announces who died and runs the vote, so every person at the table gets to play.

How many players do you need for Mafia?

5 to 16 players. It is most fun with 7 or more, when the town has room to argue and the Mafia have room to hide.

How many Mafia should there be?

The app suggests 1 Mafia for 5 to 7 players, 2 for 8 to 11 and 3 for 12 or more. You can change it, but the Mafia team always stays smaller than half of the players.

Can we play Mafia on one phone?

Yes. At night the phone goes round the living players. Each player holds the door to see their role and makes a move on the same-looking screen, so nobody can tell who has which role.

    Can we play Mafia online?

Yes. Choose Each on own phone, create a room and share the code or link. Each player sees their role and makes their night move and vote on their own phone. Use a video call if you are not in the same room.

Is it free? Do we need an account?

It is free, with no account and no download. It runs in the browser on any phone. One phone mode keeps working offline once you have opened it.
