The memory card game
Memory, also called Concentration or Pairs, is the card game everyone knows: all the cards lie face down, you flip two, and if they match you keep them. Here it is on one phone, with bright cards, a colour for every player and a twist for experts: Triples.
- 👥 1–4 players
- ⏱️ 3–10 minutes
- 📱 One phone
- 🆓 Free, works offline
It suits every age, so it is a good pick when kids and grown-ups play together, and a quick solo round is a nice brain warm-up.
How to play
- Add players. 1 to 4 on one phone, with their names. Each player gets a colour.
- Pick a mode and a board. Pairs or Triples, from 12 to 30 cards, and a set of pictures: Animals, Food, Faces, Sports, Space or Mixed.
- Flip the cards. On your turn, tap two cards (three in Triples). The screen is in your colour, so everyone knows whose turn it is.
- Match and go again. A full set is yours: it takes your colour, you score a point and you play again.
- Miss and pass. If the cards don't match, they shake, stay up for a moment so everyone can remember them, and turn back. Pass the phone to the next player.
- Most sets wins. When the last set is found, the results show who found the most. Ties are shown as ties.
Pairs and Triples
Pairs
The classic game. Every picture is on two cards. Choose 12, 16, 20, 24 or 30 cards: 12 is quick and good for small children, 30 is a real test.
Triples
Every picture is on three cards and you flip three cards every turn. All three alike is a set: a point and another turn. Anything else is a miss, even if two of them match. You always see all three cards, so a bad turn still shows you new cards. You need to remember far more cards, so it is much harder. Choose 12, 18, 24 or 30 cards.
Solo
Play alone to beat your own best. Every turn is a move; clear the board in as few moves as you can, and the time breaks a tie. Your best is kept on this device for each mode and board size.
Tips to remember where the cards are
- Flip cards you have not seen yet first: every new card is information.
- Say what you see out loud or in your head: "dog, top left; pizza, second row".
- Remember rows and corners, not single cards. Edges and corners are the easiest places to recall.
- Watch the other players' turns closely. Their misses show you cards for free.
- If you know one card of a set but not the other, flip the new card first, then the one you know, so a miss gives the others less.
- In Triples, start with a picture you have already seen twice. If your first two cards differ, use the third flip to look at a card nobody has seen yet.
FAQ
How do you play the memory card game?
All the cards lie face down. On your turn you flip two. If they show the same picture, you keep them, score a point and go again. If not, they turn back over and the next player goes. When every card is found, the player with the most pairs wins.
How many players can play?
1 to 4 players on one phone, tablet or computer. You pass the device round; the screen turns the colour of the player whose turn it is. Alone, you play against your own best score.
What is Triples mode?
Every picture is on three cards and you flip three cards each turn. Only three alike make a set; anything else is a miss and the cards turn back. You have to remember far more cards, so it is much harder than pairs.
Do you get another turn after a match?
Yes. Finding a pair (or a set of three in Triples) gives you a point and another turn, so a good memory can clear a lot of the board in one go.
How is the solo score counted?
Each turn is one move. Clear the board in as few moves as you can; time breaks a tie. Your best is kept on your device for each mode and board size.
Is it free? Does it work offline?
It is free, with no account and no download. Once you have opened it, it keeps working with no connection.
