Privacy policy.
Short version: no accounts, no cookies, no data sold. Your names and scores stay on your own device.
Who we are
House Party Games (housegames.lol) is a website with free party games. You can reach us at stuffThatWorks.dev@proton.me.
No accounts
You never sign up or log in. We do not ask for your email address, phone number or real name. In the games you type a name for each player; it can be any nickname.
What is stored on your device
The games save what they need in your browser's local storage (localStorage), on your device only. All the keys start with pg:. They include:
- the list of player names you typed, and the color picked for each name;
- each game's settings (for example categories, modes and timers);
- the game in progress, so a reload carries on where you left off;
- scores and win counts;
- for online rooms: your name, the room you are in, and the state your phone needs to rejoin it;
- for Impostor and Mafia online: an encryption key pair, made on your device, used to open the cards sealed for you.
The site also uses a service worker, which keeps a copy of the game files on your device so the games open fast and work offline. None of this is sent to us. You can delete it all at any time by clearing the site data for housegames.lol in your browser settings.
Analytics
We count visits with GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics service. It sets no cookies and does not track you across websites. For each page view it records the page, the site that linked to it, the browser type, the screen size and an approximate country. GoatCounter does not store your IP address. We also count simple game events, such as "a game of Impostor started in one-phone mode", with no names or game content. We use these numbers only to see which games people play and to improve them.
Online rooms
When you play Sketch, or Impostor or Mafia "each on own phone", the phones in a room send game messages to each other through Supabase Realtime, a messaging service. These messages contain what the game needs: the names you typed, the room code, drawings and guesses in Sketch, and sealed cards, moves and votes in Impostor and Mafia. They are passed on to the other phones in the same room and are not saved in a database by us. In Impostor and Mafia, each secret card, night move and vote is encrypted on the device so that only the intended phone can read it. Supabase processes the messages to deliver them, under its own privacy policy.
Anyone who has your room code or link can join your room, so share it only with the people you want to play with.
Third-party files
To run the online rooms, the pages load two open-source libraries (the Supabase client and a QR code generator) from the jsDelivr content network. Like any web server, it receives your IP address and browser type when it sends the files.
"Read aloud" in Mafia uses your device's built-in speech voices. Depending on your device and browser, the browser may use an online voice service to speak the text.
What we don't do
- We do not sell, rent or share personal data.
- We do not build profiles or track you across other sites.
- We do not use advertising cookies today.
Children
The games are fine for families, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because there are no accounts, there is nothing for us to collect.
Advertising and cookies
There is no advertising on House Party Games at the moment.
If we add ads in the future (for example with Google AdSense), we will update this section before they appear. It will name the advertising partners, explain the cookies or similar technologies they use and what for, and explain your choices, such as consent in the regions where it is required and how to turn off personalised ads.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
